Naples Forum on Service Conferences

The Naples Forum on Service (NFS) is a biennial international conference that brings together scholars and practitioners to explore advancements in service research. Established in 2009, the forum focuses on three foundational pillars:

  • Service-Dominant (S-D) Logic: This perspective views service—the application of competencies for the benefit of others—as the fundamental basis of exchange, emphasizing value co-creation between providers and beneficiaries.
  • Service Science: An interdisciplinary field that studies complex service systems, integrating knowledge from areas such as management, engineering, and social sciences to enhance service innovation and effectiveness.
  • Systems and Network Theory: These approaches address the complexity of service systems by analyzing the interdependencies and interactions within networks, providing insights into systemic behaviors and outcomes.

Each edition of the NFS is hosted in various picturesque locations within the Naples region, including Capri, Ischia, Sorrento, and Ravello. The forum serves as a collaborative platform where participants engage in discussions, presentations, and workshops to advance theoretical and practical knowledge in service research.

  • The upcoming 9th Naples Forum on Service is scheduled for June 9-12, 2025, at the Grand Hotel Vesuvio in Sorrento, Italy. The theme for this edition is “Care for Actors, Communities, and Environment,” emphasizing empathy, sustainability, and responsibility in service ecosystems. Researchers and practitioners are invited to submit papers that explore how care influences service interactions, particularly concerning social and ecological sustainability (https://naplesforumonservice.com/).

The forum encourages submissions that integrate its three pillars, welcoming theoretical and empirical research employing qualitative and/or quantitative methods.

In addition to the main conference, the NFS traditionally hosts a Doctoral Workshop preceding the forum to support PhD students in developing their research trajectories. The workshop includes keynote presentations and breakout sessions where doctoral candidates discuss their projects with experienced scholars. The next Doctoral Workshop is scheduled for June 9, 2025.
